As of July 1, 2012, all California dealers who sell used cars are required to obtain a NMVTIS vehicle history report for every used car on their lot, and post a red warning label on the vehicle if a title brand or salvage history is found. While the new California law is aimed at protecting consumers from purchasing less than desirable vehicles without full disclosure, pulling a vehicle history from the National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (NMVTIS) is a smart thing to do for all dealers – not just those in California.
