The North Carolina Department of Transportation passed legislation in July that includes a new requirement for entities to report vehicles to NMVTIS within 72 hours of purchasing the vehicle. Included in the legislation was a requirement that, within 72 hours of each day’s close of business, a North Carolina secondary metals recycler or salvage yard purchasing a motor vehicle must report the vehicle information to the National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (NMVTIS).

The Florida Legislature’s passage of House Bill 7125 has resulted in a significant increase in the use and growth of the National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (NMVTIS). The law, which became effective July 1, 2013, strengthens the effectiveness of NMVTIS by promoting the use of NMVTIS Prospective Purchaser Inquiries (PPIs) as part of the tow lien and mechanic’s lien process and codifying in Florida statute reporting requirements for the salvage and towing industry.

Did you know…. ….that the letters “I/i”, “O/o” and “Q/q” never appear in a VIN? If you think you see an “O/o” or “Q/q”, it is a “zero” and if you think there is an “I/i”, it is a “one” or a lower case “L”. … that your NMVTIS Record Manifest allows for you to view and edit every VIN that you’ve reported to NMVTIS through your full-service ADD account?

With the upcoming Christmas holiday, Florida Dealers should be sure to have plenty of temp tag stock on hand. UPS will not be picking up or delivering tags on Tuesday, December 24th or Wednesday, December 25th. If you need temp tags for the Holiday, they must be ordered by Monday, December 23rd before 3:00pm.
