Customer Service FAQs: ADDTag

for Auto Dealers on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 by Brittany Barrett

ADD answers common questions about the Florida ADDTag temporary tag and metal plate tag transfer tools!

Why can’t I void my temporary tag?

The DMV only allows dealers to void temporary tags the same day they are issued (before midnight). After this time, you will not be able to void the tag electronically. If you have the temporary tag in your possession and cannot electronically void the tag, write VOID on the temp tag and keep it for your records.

Additionally, there is no deadline to undo a tag transfer. Should a deal fall through after you have already transferred the tag, we recommend restoring the plate as soon as possible to avoid any complications.

Can ADD notify me when I’m running low on tag stock?

It’s hard to keep track of how much tag stock you have left, that’s why ADD has a notification system that will send you a reminder email when our system detects that you have a low number of tags. To set up this notification, simply click on your Preferences tab, then the Alert Notifier sub-tab and click Create a New Alert. Here, you will be able to select the amount of tags and even your balance threshold.

If you ever need to review the amount of tags you have left in stock, you can always find that information by clicking on the ADDTag tab then the Activate Tags sub-tab.

The system won’t let me transfer a metal plate, why?

There are a few things to look for when your customer’s metal plate cannot be transferred:

  1. Make sure that it is a Florida license plate.
  2. Make sure that the metal plate is still valid and is not going to expire within the next 30 days.
  3. The letter “O” is never used on metal plates while the letter “I” is not common. These letters are often mistakenly entered for the numbers zero (0) and one (1). Because of this, you should always be sure to have the metal plate in your possession when doing a metal plate transfer, to verify the plate number.
  4. Make sure that your customer is listed on the registration. If they are on the registration or there is more than one person listed as a registrant and you are still unable to proceed with the transfer, simply select to Continue without a Florida Driver License and search for your customer manually.
  5. If you have transferred a metal plate to this vehicle before, you will need to restore the plate before transferring another onto the same vehicle. You can do this by going into your Tag Archive , selecting the metal plate number, and clicking on the Restore Plate to Previous Vehicle button located at the top of the screen.
