ADDTag Processes Explained

for Auto Dealers on Friday, June 15, 2018 by Roxanne Decker

Auto Data Direct knows there are many moving parts in the ADDTag system and understands that customers are engaged in a fast-paced industry.

ADD’s Customer Service team offers a few handy ADDTag tips:

What to know about voiding a metal plate:

After voiding a metal plate issuance, the customer’s metal plate reverts back to the VIN it was associated with before the current issuance. The dealer should then notify their client so that the customer is not driving a vehicle with an invalid license plate.

What to know about voiding a temporary tag:

Temporary tags can ONLY be voided on the same day that it was issued before midnight. If that amount of time has already passed then nothing must be done in the system, the tag will expire on its own. The dealer should write void on the physical tag and keep it in their records for 5 years.

If for some reason you will need to void a temp tag after the day it was issued, please contact your local tax collector’s office for assistance.

How to void a temporary tag:

To void a temp tag, log into your account and select ADDTag in your apps. From there, locate the tag you wish to void in your Manifest. When the tag information comes up, simply click on the button that says VOID. There is no undo for this action.

How to issue a temporary tag to an out of state customer:

Follow the issuance process as you normally would until you get to the customer’s insurance information. Under “Insurance Type”, select the Out-of- State option and then select the customer’s state under the Issuance State drop-down menu.

It’s important to remind the driver that they will have 30 days to bring the vehicle to their home state to complete permanent registration and titling.

Temporary tag issuances limits per customer and vehicle:

Two temporary tags can be issued to a customer on the same vehicle, and a total of 4 temporary tags can be issued per vehicle before a permanent issuance needs to take place. In the event of extenuating circumstances, you may be able to issue an additional temp tag but this will need to be completed in person at your local tag office.
