Don't Forget to Report Sandy Cars

for nmvtis, Salvage, Salvage/Junk Yards and Shredders on Thursday, January 17, 2013 by Jay Svendsen

Even though it has been almost two months since Hurricane Sandy struck the east coast, and floodwaters damaged tens of thousands of vehicles, water- logged cars are still flowing into the salvage auctions from flood damaged areas.

As the insurance companies complete their portion of the process and the auctions take over, ADD would like to remind all businesses that buy or sell these salvage vehicles to make sure the vehicles get reported to National Motor Vehicle Title Information System as required. Not only will reporting the salvage cars comply with the federal regulations, reporting them through ADD will help those devastated by the effects of Hurricane Sandy. For each hurricane vehicle reported with the word “Sandy” in the reference line, ADD will donate a portion of the reporting fees to the Brother’s Brother Foundation relief effort.

According to Karen Dempsey, VP of development with Brother’s Brother Foundation, the donated funds will help many people in the storm-ravaged area. “We are very grateful for ADD’s commitment to the relief effort. Not only will it help with immediate needs of storm victims, the reporting of these damaged vehicles will help all consumers in the future.”

Industry members can contact ADD at 855-300-3455 to find out more about reporting requirements and the donation effort. For more information on Brother’s Brother Foundation, visit its website at www.brothersbrother.org.
