ADD answers common questions about ADD’s security and DPPA!

My immediate family member is an authorized user, but I am not sure why won’t ADD assist me when I call?

  • ADD’s Terms of Use requires that only authorized users (users with their own username and password) on a company’s account may access ADD services.

  • As Auto Data Direct, Inc. Customer Service Representatives, we are dedicated to providing efficient and friendly support to our customers. It saddens us when we are helpless to assist callers who are not authorized users on a company’s account, simply because the proper paperwork has yet to be completed.

  • In order to protect your company’s access to ADD services, Customer Service must enforce the Terms of Use and DPPA regulations for all non-authorized users calling on behalf of a company’s account. It’s easy to add authorized users to your account:

To add a user, simply click on your My Account tab, select the Add User sub- tab and follow the prompts. Adding a new user takes less than 5-minutes and is free of charge!

What is DPPA?

DPPA stands for Driver’s Privacy Protection Act (DPPA), federal and state regulations that protect the personal and private information that is included in state DMV123 searches. Without a permissible use under the DPPA, owner and lienholder records cannot be accessed. All users on an ADD account with DMV123 access MUST have their own username and password. Any person who knowingly discloses any information in violation of the Driver Privacy Protection Act may be subject to criminal sanctions and civil liability specified in state law for unauthorized use of the data. To read more about DPPA and legitimate uses of the protected data, see http://add123.com/dppa.

Can my employees just use one username and password?

No. ADD requires that each User have his or her own username and password to access ADD services. Each User is responsible for the personal information they access, and a record is kept of each transaction, linking the record to the user who requested it.

Sharing usernames and passwords with non-authorized users is a violation of ADD’s Terms of Use. All personal and vehicle information obtained is “not to be released by the User to any individual or legal entity who would not otherwise have access to such information.” Even though a person may qualify to access ADD services, if he or she has not submitted a User Registration form to ADD, the individual is not qualified to obtain access to information through ADD.

There is no additional charge to add Users to an account. Detection of a shared password will cause the deactivation of that Username and Password.

Will my account really be deactivated if we are sharing usernames and passwords?

Yes. We take security and privacy very seriously at ADD not only for our protection, but yours as well!

ADD requires that each User have their own username and password to access the databases. Each User is solely responsible for the personal information they access. A record is kept of each transaction and it can be traced back to the individual User. There is no additional charge to add Users to an account. Detection of a shared password will cause the deactivation of that Username and Password.

Why do I have to change my password so frequently?

At ADD, we ask you to choose a new password every 180 days to maintain account security. We ask you to change your password to ensure that you are in fact the only user accessing the ADD system with that password. Many people are surprised to learn that the same rule applies to the employees at ADD as well! All users with access to the ADD website are required to change their password at least every 180 days to ensure continued access to ADD services.

As always, ADD’s customer service is available Monday-Friday, 8am-8pm (EST) and Saturdays, 10am-6pm (EST). Please do not hesitate to contact us if you need any assistance. You can reach us by email at info@add123.com or toll-free at (866) 923-3123.
