Effective August 1, 2020, the Oregon Department of Transportation has specified that the DMV will obtain a NMVTIS vehicle history report prior to issuing an Oregon title or salvage title. If the NMVTIS report reveals that a vehicle has a junk status or similar brand, the DMV may not issue a title. Review Oregon’s Statue here.
Before making a purchase or trade-in decision, dealers can verify the vehicle’s history by obtaining their own NMVTIS report. By seeing the same record that the Oregon DMV will see, dealers can determine whether to purchase a vehicle at auction, accept a trade-in, or adjust the value of the vehicle accordingly.
